Hanne Hemstad and her family are bestowed with gifts from
the Norse Gods. When her family is attacked, Hanne, a Berserker, flies into a
murderous rage. After protecting her family by killing a group of men, her
family is forced to flee to America and search for an uncle who can help them
control their gifts. They find a guide in a cowboy, Owen, to lead them to their
uncle in Montana. Their trail is fought with dangers- wild animals, blizzards,
and gruesome bounty hunters. To make things even harder, Baron Fjelstad sends
Rolf and Ketil are sent to “collect” the Hemstads.
This book is a unique blend of historical fiction and Norse
mythology. You can’t help but see part of yourself in Hanne and become
captivated by her journey to self-realization.
As a history teacher, the story was oozing with historical tidbits that
was really blended in with the plot. It was a unique and refreshing read! There
are three off the page sexual references and several violent killings. The
violence is not too graphic but could be disturbing to some readers.
