Welcome to Super Hero High by Courney Carbone, illustrated by Dario Brizuela - ESSENTIAL

Carbone, Courtney. Welcome to Super Hero High, illustrated by Dario Brizuela.  33 pages.  Random House, 2017.  $4.99.  Content: G.  EARLY READER
DC SuperHero Girls: Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Supergirl are learning how to be superheroes at Super Hero High.  Each has her own special skills.  Wonder Woman has her lasso of truth and is a natural leader.  Supergirl has x-ray and heat vision.  Batgirl is a tech genius and a great acrobat.  When bad guys show up they team up to defeat them.  They take normal classes too, like history, art, and science.  But they take special classes like weaponomics, super suit design, and how to drive all different types of vehicles.  And they always work together to save the day.

The publisher, Random House, recommends this book as a Step Into Reading level 3 (Grades 1-3).  I loved the strong FEMALE super heroes that were tough, smart, and tech savvy.  The superhero girls’ suits were all fighting appropriate—and not sexualized.  The storyline was slightly lacking—it was more just an overview of who the superhero girls were and what they do.  Still, this Early Reader book is an important addition to the crowded super hero section.
