Lucy and Ling by Alice Pung - OPTIONAL

Pung, Alice Lucy and Linh, 340 pages. Alfred A. Knopf, 2016. $16.89. Language: PG13 (34 swears 2 “F”); Mature Content: G;  Violence: PG (Girls do mean pranks to teachers).

This book is about a 15-year-old girl named Lucy who gets a scholarship to Laurinda college. It is a school for just girls and it is filled with very rich and high class people, which she isn’t. Lucy isn’t sure if she will fit in, but eventually she gets accepted with the three most popular girls in school, who are very mean and take charge of others. She goes through many problems with these girls and gets into trouble with her principal because she can lose the scholarship. Not only is she getting into trouble with these girls, but they are separating her from her life at home and her best friend Linh. Will she stop this change or will she become one of them?

This book is very good for girls because there are a lot of things to connect to. It is very realistic and gets interesting around the middle of the book. It can start off as very confusing and even boring, but it gets really good once you get further in the book. It has a lot of swearing in it, but the swearing goes with the situations. I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend it.
