A Fire Truck Named Red,by Randall De Seve - ESSENTIAL

De Seve, Randall A Fire Truck Named Red, illustrated by Bob Staake.  PICTURE BOOK.  Farrar, Straus Giroux (Macmillan), 2016.  $17.  Content:G.

Rowan is so disappointed when his grandfather’s birthday present is the same fire truck that he was given as a young boy.  A little grungy, a little dinged up, Rowan can’t help but compare it to the shiny, gadget-laden truck in the toy store window.  When his grandfather ignites his imagination by talking about the many rescues he and the fire truck performed, Rowan realizes that bells and whistles are not necessary – only imagination.

Another great book for pre-school story time, followed by a project aimed at allowing children to use imagination, instead of plugging in and tuning out or using a toy that does all of the work for the children.

Pre-K – ESSENTIAL.  Cindy, Library Teacher
