the backside of his mother as she walks away, leaving only Cort, 13, and his
father living on their houseboat in the Alabama swamp. They tend the boat launch for his best friend
Liza’s family and eke out a living from taking tourists and hunters into the
swamps. When a hurricane descends,
Cart’s dad is off chasing his mother, leaving Cort behind and angry. During the hurricane disaster strikes, and
Cort is stranded with Liza and her little sister, desperate to find some place
safe as the waters rise higher and higher.
Key knows life in the swamps and paints a vibrant, if
disturbing picture of nature’s frantic struggle to survive against all
odds. An excellent choice for boys who
crave realistic adventure. Show this to
