The Animals' Ark by Marianne Dubuc - ESSENTIAL

Dubuc, Marianne  The Animals’ Ark  Kids Can Press, 2016.  $16.95  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

It begins to rain harder and harder until the animals are all crowded on a little island.  Noah comes with his ark and loads up the animals.  At first it is chaotic, but then they each find their own spot.  The animals do all sorts of things to entertain themselves on the long boat ride.  Eventually a bird brings back a sprig and the ark follows the bird to land.  They all thank Noah for the ride and disembark.

The illustrations in this book are fabulous.  I love the sweet animal drawings.  The story has more pages than most picture books even though there is only 1-2 lines per page, but it shows how long the animals were on the boat.  My only complaint was the random cat who was scratching every animal and feeling “peckish” which wasn’t a vocabulary word that went with the rest of the book or the age group.  This is an adorable telling of Noah’s ark and the readers will love the illustrations!
