How Kate Warne Save President Lincoln by Elizabeth Van Steenwyk -ESSENTIAL

Van Steenwyk, Elizabeth How Kate Warne Save President Lincoln 20 pgs. Albert Whitman and Comp, 2016. $16.99 PICTUREBOOK/NONFICTION
This is the story of the career of Kate Warne, she was the first female detective with the famous Pinkerton Agency. During her career Kate’s skill and efforts solved many crimes, but when she got wind of a threat to newly elected President Lincoln, her abilities would be put to the test. Features bright and simple illustrations.
I have heard of Kate Warne and wanted to add a biography of her to the library but apparently not much is known about her life before her career and as she passed away at the age of 38, there just isn’t enough material. But wow, what an innovative, interesting, and trailblazing career! Although the illustrations aren’t my favorite, I will be adding this my library collection without delay! This would be a high interest top notch history story for a classroom teacher to open a unit on the civil war with.
