Road Rash by Mark Parsons - ADVISABLE

Parsons, Mark Huntley Road Rash, 345 pages.  Knopf (Random), 2014.  $17.

Language: R (100+ swears, 0 ‘f’); Mature Content: PG (mentions minors drinking); Violence: PG (brandishing a gun, one fight).

When Zach is fired by his band for a drummer who has a sound studio (but not the skills), he is pretty sure he has screwed up his life.  Then he gets a call from a local band who is about to hit the road on tour and needs a drummer.  If he can convince his parents to let him go, this could be the big chance of his life.  But all those weeks on the road, with the same group, in a small camper, not to mention a never-ending stream of motels and seedy bars, can take its toll.  Does Zach really have what it takes to be a part of something special?

LOVE!  Its not surprising that Parson’s voice is spot on since he knows the drummer life (his drummer jokes are HILARIOUS).  I am so glad he found his writing voice also. Any high school boy who sees that cover will want to read it and they will not be disappointed.

HS - ADVISABLE (it would be essential, but note the swear count).  Cindy, Library Teacher
