Captain Beastlie’s Pirate Party by Lucy Coats - ADVISABLE

Coats, Lucy, Captain Beastlie’s Pirate Party. PICTURE BOOK.  Candlewick Press. 2014. $15.99.

Captain Beastlie is disgusting. His hygiene is deplorable. Despite his downright gag-worthy habits, his crew is squeaky clean and his ship is in tip top shape. He roams the ship day after day announcing the imminent arrival of his birthday. The night before the captain’s big day, his crew sneaks about making preparations. His birthday arrives and his crew present him with his present: a bath, a haircut, and a brand new hat and suit. He is clean at last…that is until his first bite of birthday cake.

This is a fun story that is sure to produce giggles from readers of all ages. It is full of pirate lingo that will delight and amaze and hopefully also inspire sticky fingers to get a good scrubbing.
