Language: G, Mature Content: PG-13, Violence: PG-13

Joanh, 17-year-old Nightshade assassin, has been dispatched to figure out who is out there killing wizards and framing Nightshade. He is also trying to figure out who is behind the Thorn Hill Massacre, an event that killed all the adults and turned their surviving children into mutants who have special abilities and need heavy medications to keep them alive.  When they die they turn into shades and become Jonah’s problem. While traveling, he meets Emma, a talented musician searching for her father, whom everyone seems to think knows the secret behind the Thorn Hill Massacre. Smitten with her, Jonah is determined to keep her safe. Can Jonah discover the secret behind the massacre and keep Emma safe?

The plot is well-developed and Chima is great at building tension in her book. The characters are enjoyable and likable. With a great mix of intrigue, action, and adventure, this cliffhanger of an ending will make fans of the series wanting to read the next one in the series.
