Adventures in Flatfrost by Jordan Quinn -- ADVISABLE

Quinn, Jordan Adventures in Flatfrost (Kingdom of Wrenly #5), illustrated by Robert McPhillips. Little Simon, 2014. $5.99. Content: G.

Prince Lucas, Clara, and baby dragon Ruskin accidentally melt the ice in the castle larder while playing a raucous game of hide-and-seek. To make amends, the three of them travel to the mountains of Flatfrost to help the giants harvest more ice. Along the way they learn how to appreciate others' belongings. Even better, Ruskin finally learns to control his fire-breathing powers.

This installment is not quite as strong as the others in the series, since the plot line lacks some of the suspense and sense of adventure of the earlier stories, and the tone feels a touch preachier than usual. I also missed seeing Clara and Lucas work together to solve problems. Still, it was a fun read, with engaging illustrations, a vivid fantasy world, and the characters that fans of the series have come to know. All in all, still worth the read.
