The Scavengers by Michael Perry - ADVISABLE

Perry Michael The Scavengers, 322 p. Harper, 2014.  $17.  Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

When she was little, Maggie and her family ran for their lives from the Bubble Cities and the total control of the central government.  While their living has been meager, at least they have lived relatively free.  Their home is surrounded by GreyDevils, ever-hungry former humans, who make mving outside their immediate area dangerous.  With a few neighbors, however, they eke out an existence - until the day both of her parents disappear and Dookie is so traumatized, he can barely speak any more.  Maggie is determined to find out what happened to her parents and to make her life better.  Even if means confronting the government in their own territory.  This is a nice, younger dystopian - still gritty and dangerous, but not as outwardly evil as The Hunger Games.  I find the cover a bit off-putting, however, so i will probably have to hand sell it.

EL - OPTIONAL.  MS - ADVISABLE.  Cindy, Library Teacher
