The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel - ADVISABLE

Engel, Amy  The Book of Ivy,  261p. Entangled Publishing, 2014.   $9.99. Language: PG (18 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG (not graphic); Violence: PG (not graphic).

Ivy Westfall has been raised to play second fiddle to her older sister.  When President Lattimer’s son rejects Callie as his mandatory bride, however, Ivy is forced to wed Bishop Lattimer instead - it’s not optional.  Her father, however, expects Ivy to seduce Bishop, find out where all the town’s guns are and how to steal them and then murder Bishop.  Ivy knows much less then she needs to know in order to survive - and in order to save Bishop.

Engel weaves a great story.  Courage and betrayal are woven into the beginnings of friendship - and maybe love - in an impossible situation. I am excitedly waiting for the sequel. The topics are mature, but are handled with grace, not salaciousness.
