The Extra-Special Helper by Sally Rippin -- ADVISABLE

Ripkin, Sally The Extra-Special Helper, 44 pgs. Kane/Miller Book Publishers, 2014. $4.99. Content: G.

Billie B. Brown is a little bit bossy, and nothing brings out that side of her like being chosen as the teacher's helper on a class trip to the zoo. But when she becomes a little too demanding, she risks alienating her best friend and a few of his buddies. How can she balance her duty to her teacher with her need to please her friends?

With its large font, bold-faced words, and relatable topics, this beginning chapter book is good for new readers, although it was originally published in Australia so children may need help with words such as "cross" and "cheeky." It's fun to see Billie deal with her feelings of jealousy and to learn to be a little less bossy, and the ending is sweet.
