Tesla’s Attic by Shusterman and Elfman - ESSENTIAL

Shusterman, Neal Tesla’s Attic and Eric Elfman, 246 p. Disney, 2014.  $17.

Mother dead, family home burned down - its been an awful year for Nick, his father and his younger brother.  They may not be homeless, but moving to an unknown aunt’s home across the country doesn’t really make anything better.  Nick decides to make a little money by selling off all of the junk that is stuffed into the attic, but the people who buy the junk are acting strangely - Nick almost feels guilty taking their money.  Should Nick really take the cafeteria lady’s advice and stand up tot he school bully on his first day in his new school?  Does his new friend Mitch really have a tape recorder from the garage sale that finishes your sentences with advice that can predict the future?

Oh my goodness - I laughed and laughed my way through this new gem by Shusterman.  He is so creative!  This could be a stand alone, but it looks to be the beginning of a trilogy.  Yeah!  Bring on number 2 quickly, please!
