Saving Kabul Corner by N.H. Senzai - OPTIONAL

Senzai, N. H. Saving Kabul Corner, 268 p.  Simon & Schuster, 2014.  $17.  Content: G (some violence, but nothing graphic).

Ariana and her family have been the only Afghani store in the neighborhood for many years, living a very good life after immigrating to California.  Another Afghani store opens in the same plaza, bringing irrevocable change to the family - reigniting old feuds, causing chaos and dissension, and creating a mystery that Ariana and her friends must solve.

Senzai touches on many sensitive issues in her novel - the life of immigrants, the danger of nursing old wounds, even the sneaky ways of unscrupulous developers.  The mystery is secondary to the story about families trying to create new lives after they immigrate to a whole new culture.

EL - OPTIONAL.  Cindy, Library Teacher
