Chick-O-Saurus Rex by Lenore and Daniel Jennewein –ADVISABLE

Jennewein, Lenore and Daniel  Chick-O-Saurus Rex 32 pgs. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2013. $13.98.  Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: G.
If Little Chick wants to be included in the treehouse group on the farm, he must prove that he or his family is brave. When Little Chick consults with his father, he is disappointed –finding out that chickens crossed the road and made the chicken dance. But one picture sparks his interest and Little Chick finds out that bravery runs in his genes!
This book would be essential if the artwork was better, but it does still feature large and bright enough illustrations to use in a story time. The plot is fantastic! How can one chick prove that he is brave? By finding his confidence! Students will be interested in the paleontology aspect of this story –that turns out to be true!! They may never again think about using the word ‘chicken’ to describe someone who is afraid!
