The Passover Lamb by Linda Elovitz Marshall-OPTIONAL

Marshall, Linda Elovitz The Passover Lamb.  Illustrated by Tatjana Mai-Wyss. 32 pgs.   Random House Books for Young Readers, 2013. $17.99. PICTURE BOOK. This book is based on a true story of a childhood experience the author had on her farm as a child.  In this story a young girl named Mariam is excited about going to her grandparents’ home to celebrate the Passover.  She had practiced and practiced singing the Four Questions at the seder and was excited to sing for her family.  It was lambing season on their farm and one of the lambs gave birth to three triplets the night of the seder. The mother lamb didn’t have enough milk for all three babies so one of the lambs needed special care by being bottle fed.  Since the baby lamb needed to be fed every four hours that meant that Mariam and her family would have to miss the Passover celebration in order to care for the lamb.   At the last minute Mariam comes up with the perfect solution.  This book would be a great addition to any collection on Passover celebrations.  EL (K-3).  OPTIONAL. Reviewer: SL.
