Intuition by C.J. Omololu -- ESSENTIAL

Omololu, C.J. Intuition (Transcendence Series #2) 336 pgs. Walker Childrens, 2013. $17.99.

Language: PG-13 (13 swears. No 'f'); Sexual Content: PG-13; Violence: PG-13

Picking up where the first book left off, Intuition continues the Transcendence series with Cole learning to develop her unique Akhet abilities. But soon her past -- both from her current life and her former lives -- comes back to haunt her. A former husband returns, trying to win back her love and endangering her relationship with Griffon. The sudden remembrance of a tragic accident from a lifetime in India adds new insight into Cole's abilities. And a former enemy is convinced that Cole's best friend holds the ticket to her happiness -- an obsession that puts Rayne in grave peril.

It's rare that I'm jealous of an author's world, but I want to live in this one. The closest I can get is visiting it in book form. Although Intuition starts slowly, the momentum from the previous book and the intriguing world-building help carry readers through until the action picks up. At that point it becomes nearly as page-turning as the first in the series. Like the previous book, Intuition has a sense of closure, but with strong hints that there will be at least one sequel. The sexual content pushes PG-13, and the book contains several murders -- though none described in detail -- so it may be preferable for mature high school students or those in public library settings.
