Mossy by Jan Brett - ADVISABLE

Brett, Jan  Mossy G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2012.  $17.99  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

Mossy is a beautiful turtle that loves to live by Lilypad Pond.  She has lived at the pond so much that her turtle shell actually starts growing a garden on tp.  She meets a friend named Scoot, but before they can really get to know each other, Mossy is picked up for a woman and taken to a museum.  Although lots of kids love to look at Mossy, but she is not happy, so the museum owner hires two artists to paint Mossy’s picture, so she will always be a part of the museum and then Mossy is returned to Lilypad Pond.  Mossy is reunited with Scoot and they have cute baby turtles together.

In typical Jan Brett fashion, the pictures in this book are beautiful and detailed.  This book makes the reader think about where animals were before they became part of exhibits.  The text has three to four sentences per page spread, so young readers’ attention isn’t lost.

 EL (K-3)-ADVISABLE.
