Tom’s Tweet by Jill Esbaum - ADVISABLE

Esbaum, Jill  Tom’s Tweet  Illustrated by Dan Santat  Alfred A. Knopf, 2011.  PICTURE BOOK $16.99  Content: G.  Tom is a huge cat that finds a tiny bird that has fallen from its nest.  Tom decides that the bird is too small to eat and attempts to return the bird to the nest.  The bird’s mother thinks that Tom is attacking her nest and goes crazy on Tom, so Tom gives up and takes the bird back down to the ground.  When the bird starts to cry, Tom feeds it and lets it nap on his tummy.  Eventually the mother bird leaves the nest and Tom returns “Tweet” to his siblings.  The mother decides Tom can babysit the birds when she is away.

I thought the illustrations were fantastic and the storyline teaches about not judging someone by appearance as well as friendship being able to span differences.

EL (K-3 and 4-6)-ADVISABLE.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
