Mustache! by Mac Barnett - ADVISABLE

Barnett, Mac  Mustache!  Illustrated by Kevin Cornell  Disney Hyperion Books, 2011. PICTURE BOOK  $16.99  Content: G.  King Duncan is an awful self-obsessed king.  Instead of fixing the roads or helping the kingdom improve, he is constantly putting up pictures of himself on all the billboards.  Eventually, the kingdom rebels by drawing mustaches on all of his pictures around town.  All the citizens help do it, so when he asks who drew on the mustaches, they all did and they all get put into jail for vandalizing.  Well, jail isn’t big enough, so he has to build a new one, which happens to be an improvement on the conditions of the town.  So the town is happy in jail, and the king is unhappy by himself.  In the end he draws a mustache on himself so he can join his people in jail (which is really a new and improved town).

Cute story with good illustrations and a lesson about responsibility.

EL (K-3)-ADVISABLE.  Reviewer, C. Peterson
