Only One Year by Andrea Cheng - NOT

Cheng, Andrea  Only One Year,  97 pgs. Lee and Low Books, 2010 $16.95. Content G. When Chinese immigrants decide to send their youngest son, Di Di, back to China for a year while his parents work and his older sisters attend school, the older sisters are devastated and miss their little brother terribly.  This book didn’t seem to have much of a storyline other than the sisters missing their brother. The author’s note at the end indicated that this is a regular practice when immigrants move with small children. They feel like family members are better caretakers than a daycare. I wish the story would have incorporated more of that story into the book. Elementary, NO Shauna, Reading teacher.
