Small Saul by Ashley Spires - ESSENTIAL

Spires, Ashley Small Saul 32 pgs. Kids Can Press, 2010. PICTURE BOOK. $16.95.

EL-ESSENTIAL.

Small Saul has dreamed of being in the Navy since he was a child but is turned away because he is too small. Plan B: enroll in Pirate College! After passing his classes of Intro to the Swabbing the Deck, Treasure Map Interpretation, and Looting, Small Saul still found that he had a hard time fitting in. In the end, he finds a way to prove his worth and even the bloodthirsty, greedy pirates begin to appreciate Small Saul for who he is.

This is a great book about individuality and fitting in. Combined with comical text and comical small details in the illustrations, this book is full of good loot! Children's pirate books are such a fun genre and with the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming out, they are sure to be in high demand! This would be a great one to add to the collection!

This is a great choice for Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19th.

Also excellent for exploring individuality and being true to oneself.
