Slayed by Amanda Marrone

Marrone, Amanda Slayed, 240 pages, Simon Pulse books, 2010, content- PG13 (37 swears, 3 "F") mild sexual themes and violence.  Being descended from the origional Dr. Van Helsing, Daphne's life is a little... strange. to say the least. her father was born a vampire slayer so that's all he knows, while her mom has her own reasons for killing the already dead. In other words Daphne's parents are obsessed with slaying vampires. Daphne hates it though, moving all over the country in search of a job. She wants to be able to have a normal life. friends, and a house with a nice white picket fence and a tiny white dog sitting on the porch. After killing a vampire in front of a human (big slaying no-no) she finally has a friend, albiet a rich, emptyheaded one, and a boyfriend might be on the way too. Only, the boy's father and Daphne's parents don't exactly get along, to put it lightly. They're going to have to deal with it though, because it looks like the Harkers and the Van Helsings are going to be working together on a case one last time, only this one may change the fate of the world forever.   When Romeo and Juliet meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it makes for a very fun and interesting book. Amanda Marrone's writing style is very fast paced and exciting and Daphne is very easy to relate to. Wanting to be loved and accepted is something I think all teenagers go through in their lives. This book was a very great book and something definitely worth keeping in a personal library. It may not be totally appropriate for school libraries, as it swore a lot and had a few sexual moments, though not very detailed.  HS – OPTIONAL.  Reviewer: BT
