Henry Knox: Bookseller, Soldier, Patriot by Anita Silvey

Silvey, Anita. Henry Knox: Bookseller, Soldier, Patriot. Illustrated by Wendell Minor. Clarion Books, 2010 $17.99. Content G-PICTURE BOOK.  This biography of Henry Knox covers much of his adult life, with a major focus on his efforts to release the British hold on the city of Boston in 1776. It did a great job of showing what people can do when faced with adversity. Although this is a picture book, it is geared for older readers; words like fracas, bedeviled, and inclement are peppered throughout the book. The author chose to constantly refer to Knox as Henry while referring to other historical greats by using their last name. This inconsistency was slightly bothersome, but probably won’t be for it’s intended audience. ADVISABLE Upper ES, MS. Shauna, Reading teacher.
