The Sandwich Swap by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah

Al Abdullah, Queen Rania The Sandwich Swap with Kelly DiPucchio, illustrated by Tricia Tusa 32 pgs. Disney/Hyperion Books, 2010. PICTURE BOOK. $16.99.
Yes, this book is really written by a queen! Queen Rania, queen of Jordan, wrote this book based on real life events. Salma and Lily are best friends and do everything together, including eating lunch. Salma always has a hummus and pita sandwich and Lily always has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Well one day while eating lunch, the truth comes out that they each think the others sandwich looks disgusting. Mean words are spoken, food is thrown, and the girls stop doing things together. Only when they decide to swap sandwiches do they learn that even though it's different, it can be good!
This is a sweet story about understanding other points of view rather than jumping to conclusions, and the illustrations are sensational! EL-ESSENTIAL. Whitney, Library Teacher.
