Flory is a young night fairy whose wings are eaten by a bat. Flightless and small, she finds refuge in a bird’s house in a big person’s backyard. Flory decides sleep at night and stay awake during the day. She makes friends with a squirrel that initially tries to eat her. Selfish and small, Flory learns how to sting animals that try to eat her. One day she sees a hummingbird caught in the web of a spider. Flory tells the hummingbird that she will release her, if the bird will let Flory ride on her back. The hummingbird refuses but tells Flory about her eggs that need warming. Flory finds the nest and sits on the eggs, but it is dusk and soon the spider will be awake. Can Flory save the hummingbird in time?

The book is beautifully crafted with full page, full color illustrations. Children interested in fairies will like this fresh take.
