The Lost Children by Carolyn Cohagan - OPTIONAL

Cohagan, Carolyn The Lost Children, 313 p. Aladdin (Simon), 2010. $16.99.

Violence: PG (shades of child abuse).

Josephine Russing owns 387 pair of gloves. Why? Because wearing gloves in mandatory in her town – and it’s all her father’s fault! Friendless and lonely, Josephine is surprised when a strange boy appears in her front yard. When she tries to find him later, she instead falls through the wall and into another universe. There she finds the town of Gulm, ruled by a terrible person called The Master. Josephine can either be a slave for life or she can work with Fargus (the boy) and Ida (his friend) and find a way back to her own world.

While this story was just fine, I actually enjoyed The Ever Breath much more. If your school checks out loads of fantasy, however, it is well worth your time.

EL – OPTIONAL. Cindy, Library Teacher.
