Louis Undercover by Fanny Britt- ADVISABLE

Britt, Fanny. Louis Undercover, Graphic Novel, 157 pgs. Groundwood Books, 2016. $19.95. Language: G; Mature Content: PG; Violence: G.

Louis (who seems to be about twelve years old or so) and his brother Truffle are getting used to living in two different places with one parent at each place. Their parents are separated. Louis spends a lot of time thinking about a girl at school named Billie. He thinks he’s in love with her and can’t quite get up the courage to talk to her. Louis and Truffle’s dad is an alcoholic and eventually at the end of the book his dad enters a rehab facility and Louis sees what it’s like to have real courage and do brave things so that he can finally talk to Billie. This is a really visually appealing graphic novel. The story is simple and because it’s from the point of view of a pre-teen, it’s not too intense, even with somewhat adult subject matter. I thought it was a solid graphic novel and story. It’s a quick read. EL, MS, HS- ADVISABLE. Reviewed by Shay, School Librarian
