Pirate John-Wolf by Natalie Quintart -NO

Pirate John-Wolf, Quintart, Natalie. PICTURE BOOK. Clavis, 2015.  $19.

EL(K-3) –NO

John finds himself feeling weak in many real life situations but at home, pretending to be a pirate he feels strong. When he is kidnapped by pirates, he quickly discovers many pirating situations that make him feel weak as well. When he finally finds his courage its in the form of singing a song that makes fun of the pirates. When he goes home to his real life he is brave.

This was an odd book. I think there may have been some errors in translation, it just doesn’t flow right. The lesson of how making fun of someone can make you strong is completely not appropriate. I would absolutely not add this book to my school library. The illustration seem very low quality as well.
