Hello Goodbye Dog by Maria Gianferrari -ADVISABLE

Gianferrarir, Maria and illustrated by Barton, Patrice Hello Goodbye Dog, PICTURE BOOK. Roaring Brook Press (Holtzbrinck), 2017.  $17.
A dog would like very much to not be parted from her person, a little girl in a wheelchair. The dog loves hello but hates goodbyes. Subsequently it sneaks/chews/breaks out to come visit her at school to say hello. Multiple adults have to come to take it away because it disrupts school (unless she reads to it). Finally they decide to train it as a therapy dog and it can go to the school library anytime it wants and becomes a part of the library.
My favorite illustrator Patrice Barton features her lovely artwork here, and I am a big fan. This was a sweet book about finding the right role for a dog. It brings up the topic of therapy dogs for discussion as well. Students would be drawn to this book, will relate to happy hellos and sad goodbyes, and love to how things turn out.
