Jenkins, Steve
Deadliest! 20 Dangerous Animals
PICTURE BOOK Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2017. $14.99
Content: PG.
This book highlights
twenty of the world’s deadliest animals.
Some animals kill for food and others kill to protect themselves. The book gives an explanation of what makes
the animal deadly and why. Each page has
a comparison in size to a human so you can see how big the animal really
is. There is also a map that shows where
that animals lives. Surprisingly, the
most deadly animal is a mosquito which causes the deaths of more than a million
people a year.
I enjoy Steve Jenkins
books-his illustrations are simple but interesting and the facts are
unusual. The reason I put this book at
PG is because I think it can be upsetting to little kids to think about being
hunted by animals-especially the sharks. Even though the book is the size of an early reader, the reading level is
2nd-3rd grade because of the vocabulary.
