Love and First Sight by John Sundquist - OPTIONAL

Sundquist, Josh  Love and First Sight, 272 pgs.  Little Brown and Company, 2017.  $17.99  Content: Language: PG (2 swears); Mature Content: PG-13; Violence: G.

Will is blind and has decided that in order to start becoming more independent he is going to leave his school for the blind and mainstream at a public high school.  Will finds a friend in Cecily who he starts to develop feelings for.  Then Will is given the opportunity to get his eyesight back and he undergoes surgery.  Will have to relearn many simple tasks in his effort to see and it changes his relationship with Cecily.

I enjoyed this book and was super interested in the story until the last quarter of the book and then it gets bogged down with too much detail about Will trying to rediscover his world.  I also felt like Will’s character regressed as the book went on, he became selfish and things that shouldn’t matter did especially in relation to Cecily.  The mature content is a couple of sexual references.

MS, HS – OPTIONAL  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
