The Day the President was Shot by Bill O'Reilly - ESSENTIAL

O’Reilly, Bill  The Day the President was Shot, 233 pgs.  NON-FICTIONHenry Holt and Company, 2016.   $19.99  Content: Language: PG (2 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG-13.

In 1981, John Hinckley, Jr. shot at President Ronald Reagan, hitting Reagan as well as three other men.  This book follows Ronald Reagan’s rise in politics, until he is nominated President.  It also follows Hinckley’s decline into mental illness.  The two events culminate into a day outside the Hilton, where Hinckley shoots six rounds of ammunition at Reagan, some of his political advisers and his Secret Service agents.

I couldn’t put this book down.  It was well written and had great pictures throughout to illustrate the story.  This is a simplified history, but it gives all of the interesting facts about the event without bogging down with details.  Great addition to your nonfiction sections.
