It's 2034 and a comet is on a collision course straight for Earth that will destroy life and leave Earth in near darkness.  Many people have acquired passage on one of the many generation ships and are gone.  Denise, her sister, and mom were able to secure a place in one of the shelters being constructed on Earth.  On the day of the collision, Denise and her mom can't wait for Iris any longer and leave without her.  On their way, they stop to help a friend in need.  It is getting late so their friend instructs them to go to her shelter because it is closer.  Imagine their surprise when they arrive at a cloaked generation ship that hasn't taken off yet.  They will not be granted passage but they can stay until the initial impact is over.  Soon after the impact, Denise knows she wants to stay and does all in her power to make herself useful so they will allow her and her family to stay.  But first, she must try to find her sister.

This book was interesting and I enjoyed it.  I did think it was going to be about traveling through space, but it was really about Denise.  Denise has autism and this is about how she handles everyday stuff, other people, her family and this catastrophic event.  It was well written and Denise's character, in particular, was thought out and developed.  I felt that you really got a sense of who she was and how she copes.   Interest-wise I think it would appeal more to older, more mature, students.
