J.P. and the Bossy Dinosaur by Ana Crespo -NO

Crespo, Ana J.P. and the Bossy Dinosaur 30 pgs. Albert Whitman & Company, 2016. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK
J.P. is a little boy who is sometimes sad. Like when a dinosaur figure shows that he is too short to go on a waterslide. Then he remembers who he is and goes into an imaginary world of dinosaurs playing together and becomes happy again.
The illustrations in this book are simple, bright and cute. I especially love the dog. But the story is sort of abstract and strange. I can already anticipate a barrage of questions about the dinosaur giving the height requirement to the boy (Which many little ones may not have experienced unless their family is well enough off to take them to an amusement park), then later it’s a real dinosaur that he can play with. Confusing for little ones is also that J.P is pretending to be a dino, so the back and forth between real and make believe self and the real and make believe park dino's is a bit much.
