Deceptive (Illusive Novel #2) by Emily Lloyd-Jones -ADVISABLE

Lloyd-Jones, Emily Deceptive (Illusive Novel #2) 432 pgs. Little Brown, 2015. $18.00 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: PG13 Violence: PG13
Ciere is still working off her debt to the mob, but its not all bad, she is learning to hone her illusionist skills and discovering some startling things about the furthering extent of her abilities. When a job goes awry and a fellow mobster is killed, Cierce’s friend Alan is accused. In her efforts to prove his innocence, she crosses paths with former friends Daniel and Devon, both of whom have gone down opposite and very unexpected paths from herself. As the danger increases, Cierce must outsmart a hitman with the power to see through her illusions, help to solve the disappearances of fellow immunes, and maybe make some real connections along the way.
This is a fun and interesting series; its dystopian with a magical element. The evolution of Cierce's powers were downright intriguing! I felt like I got to know the main character better, as well as her growing interpersonal relationships. While I liked that many facets of the story were brought together at the end, I felt that the chapters on Daniel and Devon were downright dull, they are whiners, and quite similar though from different backgrounds. There is murder and teen drinking, but the romance is very G rated. Overall an enjoyable read.
