Wildflower by Alecia Whitaker - ADVISABLE

Whitaker, Alecia  Wildflower (Wildflower, #1), 307 pgs.  Little, Brown and Company, 2014.  $18.00  Content: Language: PG (3 swears); Mature Content: PG; Violence: G.

Bird Barrett has been traveling with her Barrett Family Band playing bluegrass and living out of a RV for some time now.  But one night when Bird’s dad is sick, Bird has to be the lead singer and she is noticed by a country music label.  Bird’s life is about to take a new and exciting twist, but she will be sacrificing parts of her life that she loves.

This is the beginning of a fun, clean series about a girl who is following her dream of becoming a singer.  I love that her family plays an important role in her life and that the music industry isn’t portrayed as all evil.  I liked Bird and am excited to read more about her.  This book does leave parts of Bird’s life open for the sequel, but it was a fun glimpse at stardom on its own as well.
