Earmuffs for Everyone! by Meghan McCarthy -- OPTIONAL

McCarthy, Meghan Earmuffs for Everyone!: How Chester Greenwood Became Known as the Inventor of Earmuffs. PICTURE BOOK. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2015. $17.99. Content: G.

This book tells the story of how earmuffs were invented, and then how nineteen-year-old Chester Greenwood not only improved their design, but received a patent for his work. Includes an author's note on how the book came about, as well as a section on patents and a bibliography.

The illustrations have many fun moments, and the author's musing on why some inventors are revered while others are forgotten is interesting. Because of the specialized subject matter and wordy text, this one may not have wide appeal. It could be good research for students wanting to learn more about young inventors, however, or for classes studying the subject.
