A Violin for Elva by Mary Lyn Ray –OPTIONAL

Ray, Mary Lyn A Violin for Elva 32 pgs, HMH Books for Young Readers, 2015. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK
A little girl hears violin music for the first time and asks her parents right away for one. One they say no, she pretends to have one, thinking constantly about music. As she grows up and becomes a responsible grown up, day to day life is what is on her mind. When she is an elderly woman, she suddenly decides it time, but will it be too late?
First off, the illustrations are insanely adorable, this is an illustrator to collect, extremely talented. I am not sure quite how I feel about the story for students. Obviously the moral of the story, is that its never too late to make your dreams come true. However, that might be a better lesson for retirees or workaholics, not necessarily children. Children still have the chance to have their dreams come true a bit earlier than that, maybe more of a lesson about working hard on your dreams is needed.
