The Secret Path (Spooksville #1) by Christopher Pike –NOT RECOMMENDED

Pike, Christopher The Secret Path (Spooksville #1) 32 pgs. HarperCollins, 2014. $16.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G.
Adam and his family move to a small town, and when he meets a girl his age, Sally, he very quickly he finds out that its nicknamed Spooksville. As they tour the small town, they run into the town ‘witch’ and meet up with a boy named Watch. Watch has found out from a local homeless man that there is a magical secret path that takes you on a magical adventure. When they find the path, they find out that going back isn’t going to be easy, if they can make it back at all.
Looks to be a re-print of an earlier published work. I flat out found this book to be way too far on the side of horror to add to my school library. I love to find just the right spooky, creepy, and ghostly books, but not horror. This book was dark, dreary, and upsetting. There was also a lot of romance references that I don’t think elementary students would appreciate, though this book is too young for middle schoolers.
