The Tragedy Paper, by Elizabeth LaBan - - ESSENTIAL

LaBan, Elizabeth The Tragedy Paper, 312 pgs. 2013 Alfred A. Knopf $17.99.  Language: G (0 swears) Violence: G; Mature Content: PG (teen alcohol use).

When Duncan starts his senior year at The Irving Boarding School, he gets the worst room in the hall, and a stack of CDs as a welcoming gift from the last year’s occupant. As Duncan listens to Tim's recorded message, he sees his own story evolve.  Will Tim’s retelling of the tragedy that happened at school last year answer a lot of questions and help Duncan to write his Tragedy Paper?

This wonderful, well written story of young love and loss was a page turner.  Refreshing to see a high school story without sex, violence or swearing.  The subject matter is high school, and while its content is not problematic, this cerebral, dual narrated novel will certainly be enjoyed by the older and more mature student. This is an amazing debut novel! HS ESSENTIAL Lisa Librarian
