The Girl Who Wouldn’t Brush Her Hair by Bernheimer - ADVISABLE

Bernheimer, Kate The Girl Who Wouldn’t Brush Her Hair, illustrated by Jake Parker.  PICTURE BOOK.  Schwartz & Wade (Random), 2013.  $18.  Content: G.

A little girl refuses to brush her hair.  First a mouse moves in and then an entire kingdom of mice.  When they refuse to let he bathe any more, then the situation becomes rather stinky.  In the tradition of Mrs. Pigglewiggle, Bernheimer offers an absurd situation created by a child being allowed to decide what is best for them.

You can get mad at the absentee parents, or you can read this silly book aloud and talk about hygiene or about why our parents make us do things that seem silly and repetitive.  I will embrace the absurdity (because I adored both Mrs. Pigglewiggle and Amelia Bedelia when I was a child).
