Moxie and the art of Rule Breaking by Erin Dionne –ADVISABLE

Dionne, Erin Moxie and the art of Rule Breaking 256 pgs. Dial, 2013. $12.71.  Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: PG; Violence: PG13 (a gun scene).
Moxie family has a history, as in a Mob history. She didn’t think much of it, until a mysterious woman came to her with demands and threats. Moxie’s Grandfather, Grumps, who worked for the Mob, has Alzheimers, so she can’t turn to him. So this middle schooler decides to take on the mystery solving problem with her best friend Ollie. Together, they stress out, hunt for art, and break plenty of rules.
This was a fun, fast-paced, and creative story. I think that parents would not appreciate the message of keeping dangerous secrets and breaking the law. That aside I think that students will totally enjoy this treasure hunt. I really liked that the main characters were boy and girl best friends, no romance. Additionally it was intriguing to find out that the basis of the story is based on a real-life art theft.
