Hey, Duck! by Carin Bramsen - OPTIONAL

Bramsen, Carin Hey, Duck! PICTURE BOOK. Random House, 2013. $17.99. Content: G.

A little yellow duckling tries to befriend a cat, whom he incessantly refers to as a duck.  The duckling attempts to get the cat to do all types of duck-like things, but the cat will have none of it.  After a  short catnap, the cat decides he misses his ducky friend and goes out to find him.

Even after reading my description of it, it sounds like it should be an adorable story.  The cover is attractive and the illustrations are unique and have a digitally-created look. I just felt like the story flopped a little for me.  There wasn’t much substance, which isn’t always bad, but the delivery didn’t feel very authentic.  The story line seemed too familiar and not original enough to stand out. The youngest animal-loving early readers might find this appealing.
