Every Day by David Levithan - ADVISABLE

Levithan, David Everyday, 322 pgs. Alfred A. Knopf, 2012. $16.99 Content: Language: PG (13 swears; 5 God); Mature Content: PG-13; Violence: PG.

A wakes up every morning in a different 16 year old person’s body. For one day only, he experiences that person’s life and then wakes up the next day to start over in someone else’s body. He spends a day being a boy named Justin and falls in love with Justin’s girlfriend Rhiannon. Although A keeps waking up in different bodies he finds himself gravitating towards Rhiannon and he eventually helps her understand what is happening to him. Although they share a close friendship, it is too complicated for them to become something more and so A has to come up with a solution.

This is a fascinating read because the main character jumps into different young adult lives, the reader is able to see into the many troubles and concerns of different teenagers without getting overwhelmed by their problems. A is a great character with values and love and understanding for others. The storyline is easy to follow even though he does jump from person to person because his story isn’t just about the individuals he inhabits, but it’s also about his relationship and who he is. There are homosexual relationships in this novel, which is why I gave the maturity content a PG-13.

 HS-ADVISABLE. Reviewer, C. Peterson.
