After the Kill by Darrin Lunde - ADVISABLE

Lunde, Darrin After the Kill, illustrated by Catherine Stock.  Charlesbridge, 2011.  $8.  PICTURE BOOK.  Violence: PG (realistic animal violence, with abstract illustrations).  After a lioness brings down a zebra, an array of animals and insects take turns at the carcass until it is left bare.  Lunde and Stock have created a simple look at the ‘circle of life” on the African savannah.  Nothing is titillating, but it is very informative.  Elementary teachers shouldn’t be afraid of the content, as they teach this subject and middle school science teachers shouldn’t be put off by the format.  EL, MS – ADVISABLE.  Cindy, Library Teacher
