The Famous Nini: A Mostly True Story of How a Plain White Cat Became a Star by Mary Nethery

Nethery, Mary The Famous Nini: A Mostly True Story of How a Plain White Cat Became a Star illustrated by John Manders 32 pgs. Clarion Books, 2010. PICTURE BOOK. $17.00. Loosely based on actual events, Nini is a stray cat who is taken in--against her better judgement--by Nonna, a caffe owner in Venice, Italy. Within minutes, Nini helps a struggling composer find the right note and thus begins her road to stardom. Celebrities, including artists, composers, Kings and Queens, and even the Pope, from across the world hear of this miracle-producing cat and travel great distances in hopes of resolving their own troubles. With facts that have been re-embellished, this is a fascinating story about the power of one sweet, stray cat. Not only is the story entertaining, the vintage illustrations are completely charming. Also included at the back is an accurate history of some of Nini's notable visitors. My one complaint is that it is slightly confusing that the cats name and the owners name are so similar. EL-ESSENTIAL. Whitney, Library-Teacher.
