Wild Girl by Patricia Reilly Giff

Giff, Patricia Reilly,  Wild Girl.  Random House Books, Inc. 2009. Pgs. 160. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G. Lidie has grown up on a homestead in Brazil all her life. While there, she was able to ride her horse freely and dream freely about the life she looks forward to when she moves to New York City with her father and brother. When she finally gets the chance to move to New York, however, the big city is strange to her. She doesn’t speak the language, she feel trapped in her New York apartment, and feels like there’s nowhere for her to go ride horses and let loose. Will Lidie find her own way to communicate and find her place in New York?
A touching story about self-discovery, reconnecting with family, and moving. The plot is slow, but the characters are memorable and the Lidie’s situation is presented in a way that is easy to relate to. Readers who like horse stories and realistic fiction will enjoy reading this book.  EL(4-6)/MS. OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Jessica M, Librarian, Olympus Jr. High.
